The Power of Storytelling In Affiliate Marketing

One way that you can utilize storytelling in your advertising efforts is by aiming to trigger certain emotional responses from your audience – To plant a kind of seed within that makes them more receptive to what you’re trying to sell them.

This in practice is really how storytelling in affiliate marketing works. Not only do you capitavate your audience but you also give them something they can relate to.

A kind of walkthrough to help overcome what difficulties and negative experiences that these potential clients might face beforehand.

It does mean that you must gather this kind of information first, but by doing so your potential clients can be better catered for – with more suitable content to match their needs and wants.

And not only this but also this may help go some way to remove any doubts or concerns that they may have had prior to coming into contact with you.

For Instance, you could make a video that shows how a previous client was disappointed with a specific issue – and how they found an answer from the services that your business offers.

This as an example would show potential clients that you are empathetic to their struggles and from this they can trust your brand and your persona more. Then from this you will reinforce your perceived image and if all goes as expected you should find these people transformed into returning and faithful customers.

I will look to delve a bit deeper into this idea below…

Creating Engagement With Your Customers

The forceful publicizing done by most organizations has left a lasting negative impact on the average customer’s capacity to focus on what is good and what isn’t.  It really is no surprise that the average person will not check an advert out for more than a few short seconds. Mostly because of past negative experiences. [R]

However, this is why storytelling in affiliate marketing works because it offers a great method for catching and keeping the attention of potential clients.

Also, ultimately, you realize that you can influence the purchasing decisions of your readers as a direct result.

Good stories can invoke feelings within your customers and by this method, you can guide their feelings towards buying your online products.  Telling good stories will also make for very good content.

So tell stories that give your website guests something fascinating, interesting and helpful to learn about.

Create free content that is engaging and valuable to help build a sense of loyalty.

Then assuming you are continually offering top-quality substance and stories, you should find that your readers will consequently connect your image with specific things.

So much to the point that when they need the things that you can supply, it is your business they will go to first.

Making Your Stories Memorable

When individuals hear an astonishing and surprisingly motivating story, it stirs up specific feelings inside them.  As they are reading the story, they are likewise making mental projections as to how this can affect their lives.

This implies that the story stays carved into their memory. Something that advertisers will often utilize for their own potential benefits. Basically in the knowledge that since they have the attention of these potential clients it will be them who they might come to to do their business.

For example, envision a story about a woman that has lost 50 lbs of belly fat in just 6 weeks.

What will your first response be?

Let’s say you have been attempting to get in shape yourself.  What part of the story would really hit home?

At which point, will this excite and interest you?  As you consider your own situation what part will drive you home to the point you can’t help thinking about how this can help you accomplish your own weight loss goals?

This should be the ultimate goal for any copywriter.  To resonate with your readers in a way that they feel that this is the answer they have been looking for.

In Conclusion

One thing is without a doubt – Storytelling in Affiliate Marketing actually works incredibly well.  It is that one device that you can generally depend upon within your promotion.  The explanation is that it requests the client’s feelings and urges them towards making a specific move.

This forms trust in the brand and makes it simpler to offer future products to your customer base.

The logic is quite simple – people consume to either be entertained or to learn something new.  If you can offer either of these then you can rest assured that your audience will respond in some way or another.

However, if you can offer the full package and give them both then even better.  It doesn’t matter if you offer this through a blog post or via another medium such as a video or webinar – THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT ✅

Simply put, the most engaging content is that which offers entertainment or that offers knowledge.

So this is my final thing for you to take away today.  Try this when your constructing your new affiliate marketing content and see what happens as a result…

  • Hey Alex. Thanks for this great post. I agree completely that a good story will engage, entertain, and in the end (hopefully) commit the larger amount of people as just plain text. Also, the benefit of storytelling is that people don't feel they have been "sold". One challenge comes with this. How do you "squeeze" the story into one blog post, considering you only have limited space? Love the graphics inside of your page!

    • Hi Julius, not sure what you mean by just plain text but yes a good story should engage and entertain people enough for them to want to come back again and invest their time and money into what you have to say. I think this should make them feel comfortable and not like they are being sold something.

You ask how you squeeze a story into one blog post - I'd say it is quite easy just write naturally and write something that might be relatable. You say there is limited space but never felt this although its always good to cut out the fluff I think. I mean I can just write and write for some of these posts but having different heading and sections I think can help.

  • Hi Alex,
This is really an interesting concept about the use of storytelling in affiliate marketing. I never realized that stories could be weaved into affiliate blog posts. I can see however that this may be a lot easier in certain niches - but it is still doable. It is a practice that I will incorporate into my own website . Stories make readers relate positively to the writer, but these stories must be written from the heart!
    Ceci

    • Hi Ceci, Yes it really is I know your niche for your website is about helping the elderly. I think maybe you could share your experience as a care worker in some cases. You are right it can be difficult in some niches to weave stories. I think my blog here ibusinesstoday.com I've found has been a bit easier to weave stories into my articles a bit more than some of the others but it is doable on a lot of websites I think.

So really one thing that really opened my eyes up was this copywriting eBook called 77 Copywriting Secrets By Justin Allan I think it is like $7 but it is very insightful definitely changed the way I do things.

  • Hi Alex,

This is a great inspirational post. It is a wonderful idea to be writing about that triggers emotions in people and this way they bookmark your website, return to it and eventually make a purchase from you.

But more than that, writing something that triggers positive emotions is also a type of content where the reader feels connected to the author, which is great for building trust and a community.

Loved reading about your travelling stories in your other article here. How would you incorporate affiliate marketing there?

    Thank you,
    Tatiana

    • Thanks Tatiana. Yes totally agree. I kind of started my blogging journey by starting every post by saying Hi. Like well over a hundred posts I wrote like this and really now I know not to do this. You want to go straight for the jugular really I think. Like how newspapers do it with their headlines - like the first thing you read will be something like 11 dead as bomb explodes or something. Instantly you want to read more and this is how you pull people in but once you got them there then you need to make your content relatable and then they say make them an offer they can't refuse.

I mean I am really developing my writing really to make it more about story telling. I think this helps people to read until the end. You seem like you are quite onboard with this idea I think you should check out this ebook 77 Copywriting Secrets by Justin Atlan - I found this was very helpful for me if you'd like to check it out.

      Plus also this article by Forbes I think could be good for you to read too;
      https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbescommunicationscouncil/2020/11/23/12-critical-aspects-of-copywriting-that-can-drive-sales/?sh=46c3d6f27e97

  • Stories definitely have the ability to engage the reader emotionally. And when emotions are involved, the results are certain to be better.

I think it's a great idea to use appropriate stories, like your 50lb weight loss example. However, some of the stories that some companies use put me off and make me close the page almost immediately. I'm talking about the ones that use a video player to tell their story and do not give any control to the viewer... I don't know how long the video will be and i have no other options to get the information. So even though I may be interested in the product, I will not watch the videos... why, because it may be 20, 30, 60 minutes or more.... Who knows?

So, yes, telling a story is a great idea. But also important is the way in which it is delivered.

    Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Andrew, Absolutely agree. Telling stories in the right way can make a huge difference but also some companies do abuse storytelling to manipulate people into buying their products. I know what you mean by the videos you can't pause and stuff I see them all the time when I'm on Clickbank. They are very annoying for sure. However, there is a way to do storytelling right. Basically just speaking from your own experience I think is the best method of storytelling. I've been trying to do this quite a lot lately - not quite sure about how effective is but it sure does make it easier to write. I really think many blogs can benefit by putting this into practice.
